Dr Will Sharratt

Will completed his MSci in Chemistry with Industrial Experience at the University of Bristol in 2016, graduating with First Class Honours. He spent a placement year at Infineum under the supervision of Dr Andrew Schwarz, Mr Anthony Strong and Professor Julian Eastoe. His final year research project was hosted in the Briscoe Group, where he studied interfacial assemblies of polymer-surfactant mixtures through tensiometry and X-ray reflecivity. He went on to pursue an EPSRC iCASE PhD studentship in the Polymers and Microfluidics Group at Imperial College London (Chemical Engineering), where his doctoral research explored microfluidic polymer particle and capsule formation and the mapping of polymer solution structure across directional solidification pathways with small-angle scattering. During his PhD he undertook a visiting studentship within the Priestley Group at Princeton University in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Following his doctorate, Will remained at Imperial College as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and was awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship to pursue independent research into the morphogenesis of green polymer capsules in acoustic levitation. In April 2023, Will joined the University of Liverpool as a Lecturer in the School of Engineering, where he leads a research programme in soft materials within the Department of Materials, Design & Manufacturing Engineering. His work is driven by societal and industrial challenges, with a focus on the fundamental science and molecular engineering underpinning the design, formation, and processing of polymers into new functional and sustainable materials.
